Lobia Rasam and Chaat: A Fusion of Flavors
Howdy Everyone! Today I am sharing very healthy rasam and chat recipe. Lobia Rasam and Chat. Lobia referred as Black Eyed Beans in english. It is very nutritious and tasty too. There’s two varieties of lobia brown and white. This recipe is cooked with brown lobia, I can’t find brown lobia anywhere, so I cooked with lobia rasam and chat with white lobia.
Ingredients:
For Rasam:
Lobia-1½ cup(both for chat and Rasam)
oil-2Tbsp
Onion-1 small
Curry leaves-few
Dry Red chilly-2
Green chilly-2 slit
Tomatoes-2 medium
Turmeric-1tsp
Salt-a/c taste
Rasam powder-3Tbsp
Coriander powder-1tsp
Jaggery-small piece
Tamarind-1 Lemon size
For Chat:
Oil-2Tbsp
Onions-3 medium size
Curry leaves-few
Green chilly-3
Salt-a/c taste
Turmeric-1tsp
Preparations:
- Soak lobia for at least 4-5 hours. Cook them for 3-4 whistles. Drain the water from boiled lobia and set aside.
- Soak tamarind and extract the pulp, set aside.
- Chop the onions into small cubes (both for rasam and chat).
- Take ¼th cup of boiled lobia and grind it into paste for rasam. Set aside.
METHOD:
- Take deep pot or vessel. Heat oil add one chopped onion(for rasam).
- Add curry leaves, dry red chilly and green chilly. Saute for a while till onion turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric. Fry till tomatoes get soft.
- Add coriander powder and rasam powder, fry for 1 min.
- Add tamarind pulp and grinded boiled lobia paste. Add required water as per your consistency.
- Add jaggery and adjust the salt if necessary. Boil for 20 mins.. Your Lobia Rasam is ready to serve.
- Now for chat, heat oil in a pan add onions, curry leaves and green chillies finely chopped. Fry till onions turn translucent.
- Add remaining boiled lobia, salt and turmerice. Mix gently and fry on high flame for 2 mins. Close the lid and simmer for 2 more minutes. Lobia Chat is ready, garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot Enjoy!!! If you want squeeze some lemon juice while serving.
Tips:
- Serves 5-6.
- The combination of Loabia Rasam, Plain Rice, Ghee and Lobia Chat is very awesome.
- Try this recipe with brown Lobia if available. Its tastes very different from white lobia.
