Hi! Today I am sharing the flavorful King Fish Curry. King Fish generally referred as Surmai macchi here in South India. Believe this fish is very tasty and you have only one bone all over the body, once you remove this bone you are free to feed even kids under 6 years without fear of small having bones. It is very rarely available in marker because it is in very demand. It also little pricey compared to normal katla or marrel.  It also have many nutritional values.  In Indian cuisine, king fish is often used to prepare traditional coastal dishes like curries, fish fry, and tawa preparations. Its firm flesh holds up well in spicy gravies and absorbs the flavors of the masala, making it a favorite in regions like Kerala, Goa, and Maharashtra. Whether cooked with a tangy tamarind base or grilled with a simple marinade, king fish is a seafood delicacy cherished for its taste and versatility.

Generally fish curries are made in many different ways, today I am going to share with you very simple yet flavorful fish curry with little spices.  Experience the rich and tangy flavors of our authentic King Fish Curry. Made with fresh king fish and a blend of traditional Indian spices, this curry is a coastal favorite that brings the taste of the sea right to your table. Perfect for seafood lovers, our King Fish Curry recipe is easy to follow and delivers a mouthwatering dish every time.

Ingredients:

King Fish-1Kg

Oil-4Tbsp

Turmeric-1tsp

Red chilly powder-2tsp

Garam masala-1tsp

Salt-a/c taste

Tamarind pulp-50 grams

Onions-finely-1 big 

Ginger Garlic paste-2Tbsp

Tomatoes-2 medium size

Green chilly-2

Curry leaves-few

Coriander leaves- few for garnishing

For Dry Masala powder:

Coriander Seeds-1.5 tsp

Black Pepper corns-8 no

Cumin Seeds-1.5 tsp

Dry Red chillies-5 no

Preparations:

  • Apply salt and lemon juice to fish pieces, set aside for 10 mins, and then wash thoroughly with plain water, Drain the water completely and set aside.King fish curry
  • Finely chop onions, make tomato puree. Set aside.
  • Soak tamarind and extract the pulp. Set aside.
  • Dry roast all the ingredients mentioned under masala section. Cool them completely and make it into a dry powder. Set aside

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in wide pan, add slit green chillies, fry for a minute. Add chopped onions fry for 5-6 minutes.
  2. Add ginger garlic paste fry for a while. Add turmeric.King fish curry
  3. Add Red chilly powder, salt and garam masala fry for a minute.King fish curry
  4. Add tomato puree, mix well and fry till oil oozes out.King fish curry
  5. Add tamarind pulp, if you find it very thick add 1 glass of water. Boil it for 5 minutes.King fish curry
  6. After boiling, slowly add washed fish pieces. Don’t over lap them. Adjust the consistency adding water. Check salt and close the lid. Cook it for 10 minutes.King Fish curry
  7. Open the lid and curry leaves 2 green chillies and grinded masala powder. Mix gently give it another boil.king fish curry
  8. Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves. King Fish Curry is ready to Enjoy!!!King Fish Curry

Tips:

  • Serves 5-6.
  • Goes well with roti, paratha , or steamed rice.
  • This recipe can be made with any type of fish. 
  • Add 1tsp of sugar when you are about to finish the curry. This enhances the taste to next level.
