Delicious Urad Daal Halwa Recipe – A Sweet and Nutty Indian Delight

This is very nutritional and healthy sweet. Generally, it is served for newly moms for their bone strength. My mom learned this recipe with my grandmother and I followed my mom, believe me this will tastes like heaven and you can have it without any guilt. So, let’s move towards making it….
Ingredients:
Urad Daal(Black gram lentil,split)-1 cup
Ghee or clarified butter- ¾cup
Sugar-2 cups
Milk-3 cups
Cashew nuts-handful
Cardamom powder-2tsp
Preparations:
- Whipe the urad daal with clean towel.
- Grind it into nice powder and sieve it, take the remaining coarse powder, grind it again. You have to repeat this process several times, until some fine granules is left. Finally, you can mix these granules with powder.
- Cut the cashew nuts into bits.
- Boil the milk and set aside.
METHOD:
- Take a non-stick pan or kadai/wok, heat ghee.
- Fry the cashew bits and set aside.
- In same ghee add urad daal powder, and fry it in low flame till nice aroma and daal turns into pink color.
- Now, slowly add milk with continuous stir.
- Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
- Finally add sugar, mix it and cook until ghee releases the edges. Adjust the sweetness as per your taste.
- Finally mix cardamom powder and garnish with cashews…Enjoy!!!
Tips:
- Serves 3-4.
- You can soak and grind the urad daal, instead of making powder of it, but this is a long process.
